Lets bring chaos into order with these three simple ideas.
The world is littered with startup advice including this writer’s crap. My advice – keep it simple and remove as much confusion as possible from you brain. The easiest way to think about a startup is to be honest with yourself.
Lets start with that little secret inside of you where you think you just may get a little lucky and take the express train to the top of the mountain.
Rule #1: Startups either stumble upon luck and take off or you have to grind away to make them take off.
Are you ready to grind away for years to make your company successful? I mean really ready as in sacrifice trips to Cabo and the fancy new car. I frequently ask new founders this question when I sense a little naive belief that they are the newly anointed one.
Rule #2: The gross majority of startups succeed because of hard work not luck.
Nobody remembers the 36 months that Facebook was only open to college students with a .edu address. There are so many too-many-to-count hurdles in front of you to reach the highest of the mountaintop. Hard work, sacrifice and years of effort are required; even for the lucky.
Rule #3: So, in order to put the odds in your favor for your successful startup you must work your ass off. (Like my if A is > B and B is > than C, then A must be > than C math?)
As you sit back and wonder how cool it would be to captain the ship of an amazing startup company, ask yourself if you are truly ready to work hard for the long haul or will you cling to a misguided belief winning the startup lottery.
